Uncle Sol Bellear and Indigenous self-determination

Uncle Sol Bellear has written two articles in ABC’s The Drum recently, that I would like to draw your attention to.

The first article is titled Why i won’t celebrate the William Bugmy decision, where he discusses the High Court’s ┬ádecision in the William Bugmy case regarding whether a person’s background should be taken into consideration by sentencing judges.

In the second article, The case for Indigenous self-determination, he outlines how Australia has not really attempted any meaningful movements towards self-determination and self-governance. In it, he provides a number of international examples where different strategies, including Indigenous parliaments, treaties etc are being used.

Both are excellent articles that we recommend are read widely.
